| Résumé : | William Edward Hartpole Lecky (1838-1903), was an Irish historian and essayist. His most ambitious work was the History of England during the Eighteenth Century (1878-90). Its last chapters were separately published in a new edition as the "History of Ireland in the Eighteenth Century". Lecky's impressive history goes beyond the rebellion of 1798 and the legislative Union of 1800 to describe the eventful beginnings of Irish history in the new century. |
