Résumé : | The focus of the overwhelming majority of critical commentary on Mary Lavin's work has been on her short stories. Her poetry, however, can give us insight into Lavin's development as a writer, showing early stages of experiments with themes and ideas, prefiguring their later emergence in her stories. Themes of loss, yearning, and the emotional pathology of choice recur through her lyric work, and examining in particular her unpublished poems, we can trace the biographical tensions as well as her artistic growth. |
