Résumé : | As a member of the Anglo-Irish Ascendancy and an inheritor to her ancestral home, the Big House Bowen Court in Country Cork, Elizabeth Bowen was intimately concerned with the decline of her own class. She had pointed out in The Last September that the Big House was already doomed at the time of the Troubles, using a socio-historical perspective to account for its fate. In The Heat of the Day she shows that the Second World War has brought the Big House to an end |
