Résumé : | At a critical period of the Second World War in 1941 Frank Aiken went to the United States on behalf of the Eire Government, ostensibly to secure arms, ships and supplies and to defend Irish neutrality. This paper argues that the Aiken mission should be seen in the context of de Valera's wartime diplomacy in pursuit of the achievement of a united Ireland, and that hitherto its purpose has been misconstrued |
