Résumé : | Period picking essential to historians is an exercise in imagination. Setting the limits on the flux of life, personal or social, involves imagining series of alternatives and choosing between them. One further apologetic note must be struck. In many ways Ireland in the period chosen has been dominated by the 'peace-process'. The cease-fires called by the paramilitaries, Provisional IRA and Loyalist, at the beginning of Autumn 1994 and still holding, have absorbed much of Irish political, cultural and religious energy over the year |
