Résumé : | Presenting some French diplomatic views on neutral Ireland's position at the end of the Second World War, this article explores some reasons motivating the French Provisional Government's exceptional treatment of its Irish diplomatic envoy, Mr Sean Murphy, in the months following the Liberation of Paris. A perusal of files in the Quai d'Orsay suggests that de Gaulle's French Provisional Government wanted to avoid raising the thorny question of Ireland's constitutional status vis-à-vis the British Crown ; but there were other factors at stake, not least of which was the Irish Red Cross's offer to set up a hospital in Normandy |
