Résumé : | A native speaker of Irish, Donncha O Céileachair started writing in the late 1940's. In 1955, some fifteen of Donncha's short stories, together with a handful of stories by his sister Sile, were brought out as a collection, but although O Céaileachair published further stories in periodicals between 1955 and the year of his death (1960), the 1955 collection Bullai Mhartain remains the only collection of his short fiction to date. The reason for this, apparently, has to do with copyright ownership. For the same reason, O Céileachair's work has never been translated into English (or, indeed any other language), with the exception of one story, "The Burial of Conchubhar Dubh's Daughter Neill". Consequently, O Céileachar's work is unknown outside an Irish language readership |
