Résumé : | These two studies were prompted by a dual interest in classic Irish film and classic Irish literature. They do not pretend to be definitive but only suggestive of that coat of many colors (some will say, forty shades of green) that is worn by Irish culture. Beyond this, it is evident here that Irish myth and legend in its lights and darknesses may reach corners of the modern world that political and socio-economic thinkers might wish to see free of such. A good part of the power of the Abbey Theatre movement in its formative years at the turn of the century rested on the sub-structure of Irish myth; and in significant film-making, by and about Ireland, we may reasonably look for similar echoes |
