Rita Duffy was invited to take part in a conference, entitled « Les Figures du Barbare », organised at the Université de Caen in September 2004. The presentation she gave on that occasion was filmed and has been transferred on to DVD, a copie of which accompanies this issue of Etudes irlandaises. Rita Duffy studied in the early 1980s at the Art and Design Centre in Belfast before moving on to the University of Ulster to complete a MA in Fine Art in 1986. Her work, very much within the figurative, narrative tradition has been influenced by the political and social situation within Northern Ireland.
