Résumé : | In May 1974 the Ulster Worker's Council strike brought most of Northern Ireland to a standstill and helped topple the province's recently established power-sharing Executive. Although almost unheard of before it announced its 'constitutional stoppage' the UWC represented a growing collation of loyalist and unionist forces opposed to power-sharing and the Sunningdale Agreement. This paper will trace the coalescing of those forces from the aftermath of the disastrous United Loyalist Council strike of February 1973 to the announcement of the UWC strike itself on 14 May 1974 |
