Résumé : | The problem of cultural identity is a crucial element of both social and individual descriptions of the relation between self and other, especially in post-colonial societies and literatures. As an alternative to the concept of identity, this article proposes a process of hybridization, translation, or recursive mapping. This description is employed in a contrastive analysis of some exemplary texts by Seamus Heaney ("Anahorish", "Bogland", "Act of Union") and Paul Muldoon ("The Sonogram", To Ireland I, "The Mudroom") that concern themselves in very different ways with the mapping of Irish cultural identity |
