Résumé : | Martin Mansergh has been a member of Seanad Eireann since 2002. He is the son of the historian Nicholas Mansergh. He studied history at Oxford University where he obtained a Ph.D. in French history. He joined the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs in 1974 before joining the Department of the Taoiseach in 1981. He was appointed special adviser on Northern Ireland in 1982 and has served three Fianna Fail governments. His mediation was crucial in the paramilitary ceasefires of 1994 and in the drafting of the Belfast Agreement of 1998. He has published several books, his latest being a collection of essays entitled, The Legacy of History |
