Résumé : | The paper examines the performance of power relations between the justice system and the citizens of Northern Ireland, as enacted in Tinderbox Theatre Compan's site-specific production was presented on the ground floor of the Crumlin Road Courthouse in Belfast in 2000, at a time of political change in Northern Ireland. Convictions consists of a collection of seven completely discreet and juxtaposed playlets, as well as visual art installations, which are organized as a sequence of episodes in the manner of Brechtian epic theatre. Within the space of the Crumlin Road Courthouse the performance of these plays and the art installation which accompany them, generate a metatheatrical dimension, integrating and transforming the significance of the public building for an audience familiar with the courthouse in its civic (non-theatrical) context |
