Fellowship
The Centre Culturel Irlandais offers Fellowship bursaries to encourage research on its Old Library and Historical Archives collections.
Recipient for 2023: Stecy Mattonai (Lyon 2) "Les contrefaçons au sein de la collection patrimoniale du CCI. Enquête sur les faussaires d’ouvrages du XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles."
The purpose of the Fellowships is to establish the intellectual and academic value of the holdings:
- The Old Library was once the library of the Irish College when the building was a seminary. It contains 8,000 volumes (from the 15th to the 19th century), ranging from theological, historical, philosophical works, amongst other subjects.
- The Historical Archives hold more than 19,000 items, covering a period extending from the 14th to the 20th century. The main themes are daily life at the Irish College and the buildings which were owned by the Irish Community, the grant foundations, the religious community etc.
Conditions
The range of research areas is wide,
depending on the candidate's interests, and can focus on a historical
subject, a period of time, an author, the manuscripts or printed items,
the provenance of parts of the collections, the bindings etc. We are
looking for an output adding to our knowledge of the library and/or
archives, and to the information which we can put into the public
domain.
Priority will be given to research subjects examining a corpus of references instead of one items in particular.

The result should be a substantial essay in English or in French (approx. 20,000 words), to be submitted within two months following the end of the fellowship.
Duration: 4 to 6 weeks between April and September.
Grant: €1000 per month; accommodation and travel covered (subject to certain conditions).
